Wool is a traditional Dorset village with a thriving community and a long history. The name Wool is a saxon word meaning well or spring and the village was recorded in the Doomsday book of 1066. The village does however have much older roots with Bronze age barrows located close to the village as well as evidence of Roman occupation.

Today, this friendly community has a variety of shops providing everyday items with a butcher, general store, hardware store, garage, baker and chemist to mention a few. There are two good local primary schools and further education is provided by The Purbeck School.
